A Georgia animal shelter posted a recent video pleading for help after a dog scheduled for euthanasia hid behind a shelter employee.

Time was ticking on an 11-month-old puppy named T-Rex. The pup came into the animal shelter on February 3 after someone found him in a grocery store parking lot. He came right up to the person “as if he was asking for help.”

TikTok user @rescueme_atl, an account run by volunteers focused on sharing animals who need rescuing from euthanasia in the Atlanta area, posted T-Rex’s story last week with a plea for someone to step forward to either adopt or rescue him before 7 p.m. on February 13. They noted while he is “very scared” in the shelter, he is loving and affectionate.

Last week’s clip showed T-Rex terrified about his fate that night. Seeking comfort, he cowered behind his favorite shelter worker’s legs. He looked up at the employee with eyes that would break anyone’s heart as if he were asking to be saved.

The employee offered as much comfort as possible by petting his head and giving him love. But nothing would change unless someone saved him in the nick of time.

Luckily, his story didn’t end that day. A volunteer with the account @rescueme_atl told Newsweek via TikTok that someone stepped in to foster T-Rex and saved him from euthanasia. He went to his new home for only a few days before coming back.

The volunteer told Newsweek: “I just found out he actually came back to the shelter clinic last night because foster said he wasn’t feeling well and not eating! They’re treating him now. Hope he’s OK. Will visit him today and find out.”

Viewer Reactions

The heartbreaking TikTok quickly amassed more than 1.2 million views, 66,900 likes and nearly 3,000 comments. Viewers flooded the comment section with hopes the power of social media would connect him to his forever home.

“He’s so precious,” said one viewer.

Another added: “Praying for this sweet dog.”

A third person commented: “Prayers for this beautiful boy to get the chance to live his best life ever and his own loving and safe forever family quickly!”
