When are the SAG Awards? Nominations announced this week
Nominations for the 31st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) will be announced this week, ahead of the awards ceremony in February.
Actress Joey King (The Kissing Booth, The Act, We Were the Lucky Ones) and actor Cooper Koch (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story) will unveil this year’s nominees on Wednesday, January 8.
The announcement will begin with the nominations for outstanding action performances in a stunt ensemble by SAG Awards committee members Jason George and Elizabeth McLaughlin. Following this, SAG-Aftra president, Fran Drescher, will officially kick off the live event.
How to watch the nominations announcement
The nominations announcement will be streamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel at 3pm UK time. Netflix and the SAG Awards entered a multi-year partnership in 2023.
The national executive director of SAG-Aftra (the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, at the time of the partnership said: “We are thrilled to embark on this exciting new partnership with Netflix and we look forward to expanding the global audience for our show.
“As the only televised awards programme exclusively honouring the performances of actors whose work is admired by millions of fans, the SAG Awards are a unique and cherished part of the entertainment universe.”
Telecast producer and SAG Awards Committee member Elizabeth McLaughlin said the new Netflix venture would ensure the awards would be more “intimate”.
When are the 2025 SAG Awards?
The 2025 SAG Awards will stream live globally on Sunday February 23 at 1.00am UK time (5pm US PT).
The SAG Awards are the last major awards show before the Oscars and like the Golden Globes, they recognise outstanding achievement in both TV and film. The event will be streamed on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California.
Award-winning actress and producer Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This, Bad Moms, The Good Place) will host the annual ceremony, and legendary actress and activist Jane Fonda will be presented with the Life Achievement Award, SAG-Aftra’s highest honour.
The SAG Awards were founded in 1952 and are regarded particularly highly by actors as voting is limited to their peers.
SAG Awards voting process
The awards differ from other awards such as the Golden Globes and the Oscars as the voting is by active SAG-Aftra members. The voting committees are randomly drawn each year and the voting process takes place in two stages. These include the nominations balloting and the final balloting.
Final voting opens on January 15 and closes on February 21.
